BOO! Spooktacular Halloween Wishes to you!

Happy Halloween! Today is the first wedding anniversary for my youngest sister. Happy Anniversary Sarah and Bill!! Their daughter, Hannah, will be dressing up as a little witch! I can't wait to see photos and surely I will because my mom has my CAMERA!

I just wanted to stop in and share some favorite Halloween videos... I love this one... I can sing all the songs by heart and grew up watching this.

Let's not forget THIS one... The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown is a true Halloween classic cartoon. I have the entire show memorized too, also grew up watching it. Every child should see this one.

And here's one last video! I started watching Vampire Diaries recently and fell in love with the show... it's a bit corny I'll admit, but the Halloween episode was great! here's the preview...

We are off to the Razorback Football game tonight, it's HOMECOMING ON HALLOWEEN and WE BLEED RAZORBACK RED! Here's the Arkansas Razorback Marching Band performing "Thriller". I was there, it ROCKED! GO HOGS!

Busy as a bee...

I wonder who made up that phrase, "Busy as a bee", and how busy do bees really stay? Either way, I've been busy. Work is hectic but starting to slow down and I am finally catching up. On a whim tonight, I decided to update the look of my blog. I noticed there was a log of white space around my template when I logged in on our "big" computer. It has a 19 inch widescreen. It's huge, I love it. So I updated the template to fit. Now on a smaller screen, like my 15 inch widescreen laptop, it cuts off some of the design, but I figured it still looked okay, what do you think?

Oh, and have you SEEN this New Moon trailer...I am getting excited!

CT Team Applications and scrapping much...

Well, I have been up to a lot. Things at work are VERY busy as students prepare to start back to school for the Fall semester. Keeps me on my toes, that's for sure.

I did a couple of layouts today that I am really proud of. They turned out really bright and fun, don't you think? Here's the first one... It's called "Raining on the castle". I used a really fun kit that I bought from Sahlin Studio called "Enjoy the Moment". It's very Disney friendly as you can tell. I had SO much fun with this layout. You can leave a comment if you like it, here...

This is the other layout I made today. I guess I was in a vacation mood. This is from our trip to Vegas last Fall. It was SO much fun! I had a kit by Brit-tish Designs for this layout. Bet you aren't surprised to hear it's called "Jackpot". In case you are wondering, no, I did not win one.

So that's what I am up to right now. Oh and I've applied for some new CT's. I am currently on the site CT for Inspiration Lane and LOVE IT!!! but I need a little more to keep my scrapping fingers occupied. So I applied for Brit-tish Designs, Sahlin Studio and Cinnamon Designs... and no, I didn't even make one of those... so now I have applied with the Scrap Matters site CT call and have my fingers crossed b/c I LOVE Scrap Matters and don't get to spend nearly enough time there. I'd love to make the team but not sure my luck is good enough to get on, as it's been going this past several weeks.

When I went to the doctor one average Monday afternoon complaining of a “leak”, I was 5 months pregnant with my son. Yes, it was a shock to see the 4 home pregnancy tests come up positive. I didn′t truly believe I was pregnant until we heard his little heartbeat at the first appointment. It became even more real when I saw him at the first ultrasound. I′d never imagined I was ready but I waited every night to feel his first kicks.

But that one average Monday changed our plans. The amniotic sac had ruptured; it wasn′t strong enough to support our growing son like it should. He was born on September 20, 2006 at 1:49 a.m. at only 21 weeks, weighing in at 13 ounces, 10 inches. He died at 1:50 a.m. We spent our first and last 12 hours with our first born, our son. That was the moment we joined a special group of parents, one that no one wants to be a part of and we are lifelong members. Every day, we work towards a goal of creating awareness, supporting other parents who’ve lost a child, and working towards a goal to help babies like our son have a chance to live.

The March of Dimes works to save premature babies. One day, all babies will be born safe and healthy. Won′t you join me in saving those babies? Surely you want to know what I've been up to! So check it out! I'm on the creative team for Inspiration Lane! I love it there! The creative inspiration and work of the others really helps me stay inspired. I've been scrapping now for a year and a half so it is easy to get bored and I've gone through that phase but this great team of designers and CT members have really helped me get out of the rut!

I have to start off by showing this fantastic kit by Amy Stoffel. It's called "The Moon is your Cradle, a kit for Christopher". Wow, what a special name if I do say so myself. I was in love with this kit from day 1 because it represents her son named Christopher and I immediately related to her and to this kit.

So I actually have done two layouts with this kit so far and will be doing many, many more. It's a HUGE kit with absolutely tons to work with. I chose to show off this layout. It was a very hard layout for me to work on and brought lots of tears as I created it. The photo is my son the day before he died. I was 5 months pregnant when my water ruptured and in this photo, you can see how squished Christopher was in my tummy with no fluid left in the amniotic sac. Out of all the pregnancy worries I had, this was never on the list. Having my son changed who I am and who I will be so I reflect in the sadness of his loss with hope and love like never before.

So I had to show you this layout, LOL... this is my niece Hannah who will be 2 years old in July. She's my youngest sister's daughter. She's a complete HOOT and keeps her Nana and Paw Pa on their toes every day when they baby sit her. She LOVES "dippy" sauce, aka dipping sauce that you get with chicken nuggets. Obviously she will eat it out of the cup and does NOT like to share. Funny thing though, I chose a kit called "Peas N Carrots" by Miss Huni Buni. I chose to work with this kit because she was my April designer and I wanted to scrap outside my element. I LOVE how it turned out and can't wait to use this kit more! If you happen to have those great "babies eating/making a mess" photos, THIS is the kit to use and it's only $3.00.

SO yeah, my last two to share are TWILIGHT themed. Catch the theme? I love it and made Flergs new Twilight kit my newest blog theme. I have the movie and watch it often. I've also read all the books and went back a 2nd time and listened to the audiobook versions as well. It's so much fun to scrap Twilight photos, silly yes, but lots of fun. My first one is using a kit called Lucky Star by Jen Yurko. I don't have many "boy" pics to scrap so this one worked out great.

I saved one of the best for last. I adore this layout. It turned out so much better than I thought it would. I found this picture on the web and it represented such a similar picture of what I see in my head when I read the ending of New Moon. I wanted to use this kit by Amy Stoffel called Simple Memories because I so rarely scrap in black and white. It came together so well and what a great addition to use the red splatter glitter from the color pop series. Stop by and check out this kit.

In re-design mode...

I've been so inactive on my blog lately that I decided I should do some re-designing! I chose Flerg's new Twilight kit that I absolutely LOVE for the grapics. Thanks Flergs! Your work is amazing.

I also finally got my design blog started. For now, I plan to keep and update both, but we'll see how that goes.

You know those people? You know, the ones who NEVER update their blog? I hate that... but OOPS, I've been one of them. Things are hectic and I've been lazy whenever a chance comes up. So here's some new stuff from me.

Trish H. Designs has now become the SOLE owner of Enchanted Studio Scraps. You bet this is going to leave little time for her designs but I will be ready to scrap when she has something new come out. I truly think some of my best work comes from her kits. Click on the kit preview of "In the Blues" below to snag this cute kit for only $2.99!

I spent February doing a guest stint with Sine. She is a fantastic template designer over at Scrap Orchard. While my time with her was short, I really enjoyed it. Here's a couple of the layouts I did using her stuff.

This layout features a few of my favorite baseball pictures so far. My husband received season tickets just behind the home dug out. It's a great view and lots of fun. The baseball hogs are a great team. You can always count on a good game and they usually come away with a win.

It's the last Sunday in the first month of 2009! Wow, can you believe how fast this month has gone by? I've been very lacking in getting layouts done this month. My favorite designer is on a brief hiatus from designing so I've been looking for some other gigs. One of them is a guest creative team member for Leah Riordan. She sells her work over at Elemental Scraps. I've really enjoyed working with her kits. Here's some more of what I've done with her kits.

Hard at Play, I featured the new train set my nephews got for Christmas this year.

Kiss my ____ is a collab kit with Chrissy W and Leah Riordan. I used a favorite picture of mine with me and my niece Hannah.
This is also using the Kiss my ____ collab (great name, huh? I love it!) Featuring a new baby that a friend had recently.

I can't say I have much more to report but I can encourage you to stop by next weekend for a HUGE announcement!! I'm working on a bit of a project that is really exciting!

Goodbye 2008

Here it is! My final post of 2008. Seems strange to me that this year (or past few years) has gone by so quickly. I can't say that I report 2008 as a "good" year for me but I can't complain too much as I am sure there are others who had it much harder.

2008 is the year I started digital scrapbooking forever planting my fat butt on the couch which is good and bad all in the same but has provided a distraction of sorts for me from my worries and stresses, for that I am thankful. I also started blogging, joined Facebook, and started a new job.

Our journey to start a family has stalled for now but if anything, it is what I look forward to most in 2009. I am determined to push our way through the troubles we've had. I know a family is in our future, I've seen it in my dreams and our son, Christopher, is always watching over his parents and siblings. These things just take time in some cases but remaining hopeful is all you can ask for.

In 2009, like most of the world, I'd like to lose some weight and get back to the "me" I see in my head and not the me I see in the mirror. I'd like to scrapbook more and learn how to design. I'd like to be more on top of my dog's grooming, and eat healthy dinners at the expensive and beautiful kitchen table we have. I'd like to buy a weed eater and do something with the two broken down cars in our driveway (get em running or sell them) even though our 1992 Jeep Cherokee is very sentimental to my husband and I and it's hard to let it go. I'd like to improve my performance on the job and work harder at being more friendly and more social instead of spending every day and night on the couch when possible.

All in all, I am lucky and hope to remain lucky in 2009. Wishing you all the best.

I just wanted to post a couple of photos of the Angel Tree items we purchased. We chose Elijah. He's a 2 year old little boy who liked Diego from Dora the Explorer and Curious George. Here's a photo of the items we got him.

Now, you might be wondering why you see girl items too? Well, we inspired my mom and dad to get an angel off the tree as well. They also chose a 2 year old, a little girl named Diane. She liked Dora the Explorer as well. We got her several things we thought she might like. Here's a photo of those items.

We definitely spent more than we anticipated, and we didn't buy much in the way of groceries for ourselves but it was simply amazing to shop for these items to give to someone's child knowing that it may make Christmas a little happier for them.

We did this for our son, Christopher, who can't be with us this Christmas and for my 1 and a half year old niece, who's the joy of our family's life right now. She's so much fun.

Our Angel Tree Child, Elijah

I'd like to tell you what I know about Elijah. My husband and I chose him from the Angel Tree to purchase gifts for. He is a 2 year old little boy who loves Diego from Dora the Explorer and Curious George. We only have a few days to purchase his gifts so he will have a special Christmas this year.

We chose Elijah because of his age. In September 2006, our son, Christopher, was born prematurely and did not survive. We miss him every day and work to preserve his memory. Christopher would be two this Christmas.
We have a short wish list for Elijah but our budget is very tight this year and we can only do so much. If anyone would be so kind as to help us provide a better Christmas for this little boy, please donate a small amount to us to be used for his gifts. My paypal address is kat.tankersley@gmail.com

Houston and Ice?

Those two words don't "sound" like they should go together, right? Well, for me they do today! I woke up early this morning. We'd had VERY light snow all day yesterday, not amounting to much until the wee hours of the morning when things froze a bit. By the time the morning rush hour came, all seemed safe enough. I went to work with my bags for a trip to Houston for a conference for work. I opt'd to go in a different door simply b/c I didn't want to carry my bags down the stairs.

MISTAKE!

I turned the corner and slipped on a patch of ice on the sidewalk. It was crystal clear and barely able to be seen until it was too late. Lucky me, I landed SMACK on my face, nose, lips, teeth and chin and I hit HARD! I thought immediately that I was in BIG trouble... As I started to stand up, there was blood gushing everywhere, no one was around so I ran in the building and asked the door attendant to call the building supervisor to come quickly. I ran to the bathroom and got some towels and saw that thankfully my nose wasn't broken and my teeth were intact but my lip was split pretty seriously.

I called my wonderful husband and got over to the health center on campus where they were amazing to me. I got stitched up, I'm terribly swollen but I flew out to Houston for my conference anyway.

Tonight I'm sitting in an expensive fancy hotel room with the most comfortable covers and pillows EVER. Wish I could say my lip was feeling comfortable but it looks about as bad as it feels. I'll share pics over the next day or so.

Hope for the Day...

Each week, I get an email of inspiration, an email of hope from someone who on some days really helps me heal the hurt in my heart. She speaks of grief, but all too quickly today I was reminded that it isn't just the grief of losing our son, Christopher, the thought of how different our lives would be with a happy two year old this Christmas, the difficulty the past two years has brought in trying to bring another child into our lives and failing so miserably repeatedly, but it is also the grief you feel in betrayal, loss of trust in some of your closest friends, loss of something you work so hard for and spend so much time on that supposed friends throw you away like yesterday's garbage.

I left two out of three of my CT's this week. I am hurt and heartbroken, but as always I will heal again. There ARE good people out there in this world. They may be fewer and farther between but there are people who will always be there for you. So thank you to those people, Dana, Tracy, Beth, Trish, Yvonne, Steph... of course, my sweet, loving dogs who remind me every day why I love them so much and my husband (most of the time).

So here's this week's "Hope for the Day"...

This is the season when we are supposed to be filled
with joy and thanksgiving, yet it is so difficult to
even say those words during times of painful loss.

A Saturday's Warmth...and some layouts

It's a chilly Saturday here in Arkansas. Temps are supposed to be in the high 20's and 30's. Strangely enough, I love this kind of weather. Cold weather and winter is my favorite time of the year. Scott and I have spent our day hanging on the couch in front of the fireplace watching football.

Here's a few layouts I did this past week. I tried out for a creative team spot and participated in a challenge for a spot. I was pretty disappointed that I didn't make it. Truthfully, maybe even a little angry. Sometimes I can't help but wonder if calls like that one are "fixed". It may be that I like my own work better than others do. Anyway, here's my losing layouts that I still love...

What do you think of the new blog layout? I found this fantastic kit called "Happy Tails" by Irene Alexeeva and Ziggle Designs. It was on sale over at Scrap Orchard. They have a great shop and I love the work there. I was thrilled with how the layout and header came out and I hope you like it too.

I've had a long week of being sick but today, I am finally starting to feel back to normal. I spent the weekend scrapping at the Digital Candy Scrap-a-thon. 8 layouts in TWO days... that was such a blast. Here's some of what I did...

This is my niece, Hannah. I did a scraplift and loved the simplicity of this LO. It's actually harder for me to do simple layouts sometimes. I particularly love the picture of my dad holding her when she was yawning.

One Year Later

My sister (Hannah's mom) got married this past Friday (Halloween) in Jamaica! Her theme was Halloween and Jack and Sally from the Nightmare before Christmas. I thought it was super unique! I scrapped this layout for the DC DSD Scrap-a-thon lyrics challenge using the Jack and Sally song from the movie. Can you believe I have never really seen that movie? I need to rent it.

I have to admit, being sick caused me to be a bit behind. Yesterday kicked off DSD (Digital Scrapbooking Day). There are sales EVERYwhere and I have taken advantage already! I purchased a few things on my Wish list over at my favorite store... Digital Candy. It was a HUGE bargain! I loved it!

How was YOUR Halloween?

I hope everyone had a safe and fun Halloween. For me, it's been a long week. I got sick on Monday and by Tuesday morning, I had a terrible cold. I called the doc but didn't hear back until Wednesday afternoon. I talked with them about how difficult it was to breathe due to my congestion and they had me come right in. See, I have asthma (just recently developed it) and a minor cold will shut me down for days. I had a couple of breathing treatments and was pushing air considerably better when I left, but not for long. Later on that evening, my airway closed up completely (or it felt like it). Off to the ER where I received an IV, steriods, fluids, a chest x-ray and 2 more breathing treatments. That worked brilliantly. I got home and was exhausted and spent the past two days in bed. The docs said it's normal to feel so tired when your body is working so hard just to breathe. You can imagine the medications I am loaded up on. A small fortune's worth.

So it took me some extra time obviously to get you a mini Halloween freebie. I can't say it's very good, and I am not sure I like it but will share it anyway. 4 Shared is down right now but as soon as it's up, I'll load the link. For now, here's the preview of your "Halloween Treat".

Greetings from Sunny Las Vegas!

It's a beautiful day here in Las Vegas! The weather is so amazing. Even though the temperature is warm during the day, around 88 for a high, you don't get the heaviness of the humidity so it does not feel as hot as 88 in Arkansas. It's such a wonderful change. The nights are wonderful. A wonderful temp of around 65. Walking the strip is one of the most stunning things.

I am not a gambler by any means. I've spent most of my time out of the casinos due to the cigarette smoke that aggrivates my asthma. I did bet a buck (and lost it too)... and its quite different than betting on an online game with no risks. I think I'd rather hold on to my money personally. LOL!

My favorite part by far has been the beauty of the Bellagio which is right across the street from us. We have spent both nights here in front of the beautiful fountain show. It is completely amazing.

A note from Lena of DST: Read below....
"Please help, friends! I got distressing news from David last night. I'll post a little bit of backstory for those of you reading this for the first time. To my dear old friends, sorry you have to read it again!My husband was supposed to graduate from Basic Training on September 19th. He has completed all of the requirements...field training, obstacle courses, written tests, weapons qualifications, etc...But could not pass his PT test when it came to graduation week. He has to run two miles in 17 1/2 minutes and he was a minute over.

So, he stayed at Ft. Knox and was told he was going to FTU-a fitness training unit. There they specialize in helping you to pass your PT test. David, and about 15 other "holdovers" as they call them, didn't go to FTU however. They stayed around the barracks and did crap work...painting the walls, washing trucks, and other busy work. They weren't allowed to do PT actually, except the occasional trip to the weight room. But no running except for the 2 or 3x a week PT tests, which David has continued to fail...though improving his time each test. He's now 20 seconds over on his two mile run. He's a very tall man, 6'0, and in great shape, but he has a very long torso and very short legs. He's working on his stride right now and his technique...trying everything he can to pass!

He called last night and told me they sent him to FTU, but that one of the drill sargeants gave him some bad news. That he won't receive another PT test until next Thursday (a week from today) and that is 27 days after his supposed graduation date. The drill sargeant continued on to say that if you don't pass your PT test by 28 days past graduation, you are discharged from the Army. This is potentially devastating news. I know that exceptions may be made, and maybe they'll give him a little more time since he will have only been at FTU for one week, but if he doesn't pass he could be out of a job! Of course, we hope and pray that he passes! With nothing to focus on for a week but fitness hopefully it will be the boost he needs to make a difference and shave off that last 20 seconds.

If he does get discharged from the Army, it means our world will be flipped upside down. We'll have no income coming in, and no place to live as it stands, either.I'm not allowing myself to dwell on the negative possibilities. This is going to be a long week for me, not knowing, and not having any control over anything. All I can do is cheer him on from the sidelines. That's where I was hoping you could come in.

He gave me his new address at his FTU. I was hoping that maybe if he got enough letters of encouragement, it would help his morale and lift his spirits. It's one thing to hear that I'm praying and wishing the best, but it would be quite another to have the surprise of a stack of encouraging mail waiting for him!I'm asking you to just send a little encouraging note, it doesn't have to be a novel...or a little card...but please don't send any packages. I'm asking you ONLY to send something if you can get it in the mail on Friday or Saturday and live in the U.S. Obviously after next Wednesday he could be on his way home, or on his way to AIT at Ft. Leonard Wood, MO, so I don't want stray mail straggling in after that and being wasted. I have a feeling they don't forward soldiers' mail because they get so much of it after a person has already left the unit. I'm thinking anything mailed by Friday or Saturday will be received no later than Wednesday, so that's why the cutoff."

Kerrie is a native of Arkansas and moved to Fayetteville in 2000. She chose the U of A when opportunity knocked. Kerrie has been working on campus for just over a year and joined the IMRS staff in June of 2008.

In her spare time, Kerrie enjoys spending time with her husband, her 5 dogs, and working with non-profit organizations. She also enjoys digital scrapbooking and designing kits for scrapbooking, as well as watching movies, reading, listening to music and spending time with her niece, Hannah and her family. I can't resist sharing this here. This is the new book I just finished, coming out in a movie on 12/12/08 (my 2 year wedding annivesary). It's called "Twilight" by Stephanie Meyer. It reminds me of "Moonlight", a show on CBS last season that was truly amazing. This book is the teenage version. I got to the end last night after reading for 2 hours straight. I couldn't put it down. Once I was done, I got up and headed to the store to buy the next book called "New Moon" and I'm hoping to finish it this weekend. Although a part of me thinks I should treasure reading it, it's that good. I lost interest in reading for most of my twenties and only started enjoying reading again when I got hooked on Harry Potter. These books are AS GOOD as Harry Potter (or better).

Happy Fourth!

Happy fourth of July! I hope everyone had a wonderful, SAFE holiday. My husband and I spent the day at home relaxing and enjoying the start of a long weekend. Locally, we usually have a huge fireworks display put on by our city, but the Mayor decided that the budget needed to be cut and cut the fireworks show. It was a terrible idea in my opinion. Last night the entire neighborhood was popping and cracking loudly from about 7 pm until midnight with random pops. We've never had that much going on, but I have a feeling everyone was breaking the "no fireworks in the city limits" law because of the Mayor's decision. It was terribly annoying and for the first time ever, it disturbed my dogs. They barked off and on and one of them wouldn't even go outside.

Aside from all that, here's my fourth of July layout. I used a great freebie by JenLin Designs found on her blog...

Well the month of June provided a huge amount of fun at my favorite scrapping website. Digital Candy celebrated their FIRST birthday!! I am so proud to be a part of this wonderful team. It's lots of fun and the people are wonderful. This is my final "race" layout. It was a HUGE challenge. We had requirements for elements and swirls and such. I barely got it squeezed in before the cut off, but I am proud to know I can do it! The full credits are in my gallery here... Happy Birthday Digital Candy and thanks for all the fun this past month!

BUSY days ahead

Things have been very busy lately. If you need to reach me, you can, fairly easily. I am still on all my CT teams and "most" have been understanding that I am a bit slower than usual and not cranking out layouts like normal. I am working full time again in a new position across campus that seems to be working out very well so far (knock on wood) and I am busy at night catching up on chores or rest. Hopefully soon, I'll be used to my new schedule and things will get back to normal.

In the meantime, you guys know how to reach me, feel free to email or call me. Love to hear from you.

Leaving my Share group

Well I just wanted to post about leaving my local Share group. I have decided it is what is best for me right now. The group is not working well as a team and some very mean comments were said to me about why I was in the group. I know why I was there and it was for my son. I will soon have another outlet to honor his memory.

I scrapped this page because I was so angry about the emails I received about it. There are a couple of "friends" who have known my husband for a long time but have never really known me that well. They are opinionated and believe they are right regardless of if they are. It sucks. It sucks to lose friends and it sucks to have people in your life who work so hard against you and try to hurt you. I am past the point in my life where I want people like that as "friends". I don't like the drama, I'm busy, and I have other things I can do with my life and my time. It becomes more precious to me every day.
I am definitely not usually in the position to give advice to people but I can say that you should not make assumptions and never judge someone just because you "think" you know. In all likelihood, you do not know them, their feelings, or why things are the way they are. Kindness goes a long way. I am truly in a good place about it all.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DIGITAL CANDY!!! June marks the 1st birthday of Digital Candy, a digital scrapbooking website I've been on for the past several months. It is full of wonderful people, creative designers and fantastic work. I really enjoy everything they have to offer. I've scrapped a couple of avatars for a challenge they are holding.

Check out this cute cupcake! Trish H Designs offered a challenge for ONE DAY only where we could use a really cool cupcake decorating template. We used our own creative minds to make a cupcake. Mine looks yummy and made me very hungry! I even saw one great one with a Pirates of the Carribean theme! To make this cupcake, I used some of my favorite items, papers from JenLin's Start Me Up Series, Glitter Styles by Monice of MGL Scraps, and of course a few favorite fonts like CK Cursive and Feel.

I scrapped this first layout for my son's 20 month "birthday".

And this IS our backyard after a good rainstorm! We have a little (BIG) river flowing through our backyard and it's now flooding our entire area. The dogs are NOT happy when there is this much water!

Oh, did you hear the news? Yes, I did, I found another job on campus that is a pay increase and a good opportunity. Can't wait to see how it goes!

Poor Hubby and new Layouts!

Here's a new LO I made yesterday, scroll down, read about my husband and see some more! This beautiful kit is called "Sunny Smiles" and is by Mickey B Designs. It will be in her store at The Scrapping Garden soon. I love this first layout. It is a photo of Hannah I extracted and overlayed the beautiful blue paper (lightening up the transparency), added the fabulous gold glitter overlay (I LOVE the glitter elements). The song is called "Here Comes the Sun" by none other than The Beatles. It is for the May Get Lyrical Challenge found in the Digital Candy forums.

Well, geez, my husband is plagued with crappy injuries. He was standing up from his chair at work and wham-o, knee popped and about 5 hours later, we came home from the ER with pain pills and no answers. After visiting the orthopedic clinic the next day, still no answers and off we go for a 2 week wait to see if the swelling goes down.

So, what does this mean, you wonder? It means my crippled husband is laid up on the couch playing EQ and I am running around after him, the dogs and still trying to maintain my sanity. Nevermind that I have to drive him to work and drop him off. Geez. That's all I can say. I have a few photos of him in his brace, I'll have to post them.

In the meantime, here's a few more new LO's for you to check out.

Add beauty and life to your garden with the inclusion of flowers and plants that attract butterflies. There is a range of specific plants that entice butterflies, are easy to care for and are attractive for the garden. It is important to include "Host Plants" to ensure that the butterfly larvae (caterpillars) have a home and "Nectar Plants" for the butterflies to feed upon.

Steps

Research first. Find out which butterflies are common in your area. Observation over a few days and the use of a butterfly field guide will help you in this pursuit.
Choose "Host Plants" for your garden. Note from your research what the caterpillar (larvae) of the local butterflies eat. Two excellent examples are:
- Milkweed - this attracts the Monarch caterpillar; and
- Parsley - this attracts the Black Swallowtail caterpillar.
Choose "Nectar Plants" for your garden. Nectar plants serve as the food source for the butterfly. There is a variety of possible plants and some of them are shown here. Excellent choices include:
- A Butterfly Bush - this is suitable for a Swallowtail. Large plant: 4 feet (1.2m) tall, 6 feet (1.8m) wide, make sure it is hardy in your area. Some varieties are considered invasive, so make sure, if you purchase one of these, that you keep it dead-headed to prevent seed production.
- Swamp Milkweed - suitable for the Snowberry Clearwing. This plant grows 3 feet (.9m) tall and 18 inches (.5m) wide. It also serves as the host plant for Monarch caterpillars.
- Joe Pye Weed - this is suitable for the Swallowtail. It grows to be a very large plant - 8 feet (2.4m) tall and 4 feet (1.2m) wide. It is a perennial.
- Aster - Asters grow to 3 feet (.9m) tall and 2 feet (.6m) wide. It is a perennial. Butterflies especially love native varieties.
- Bee Balm - this plant grows 2 feet (.6m) tall and 18 inches (.5m) wide. It is a perennial.
- Zinnia - this plant is attractive to a range of butterflies and they especially like the tall varieties. The plant generally grows 4 feet (1.2m) high and 1 foot (.3m) wide. It is an annual and is easy to start from seed.
- Pentas - suitable for Swallowtails. This plant grows 2 feet (.6m) hight and 3 feet (.9m) wide. It is an annual in cold climates.
- Heliotrope - this plant attracts a range of butterflies. It grows to a height of 2 feet (.6m) and a width of 1 foot (.3m), although it is possible to contain it in a pot. It will remain a perennial in temperate zones but is only an annual in cold climates.
Plan garden on paper. Draw up a plan, or decide where to add these suggestions to a current garden. Keep in mind the full grown size of plants during this planning stage.
Purchase plants or seeds from garden center. You can also get these plants and seeds online. Choose robust and healthy plants to give them a good start.
Plant your butterfly garden. Make sure to keep new plants and seeds watered until plants are well-established or seeds germinate. Keep the weeds at bay, to give the plants a good chance.
Observe and enjoy the butterfly activity in your garden. Watch for female butterflies laying eggs on host plants. Make notes in a record book of the butterflies that you observe and, if you can, take photographs to add to your record book. A digital record book can be a useful and simple way to do this and can be added to over the years. Observed changes in the types and numbers of butterflies coming into your garden can be information shared with biologists, ecologists and climate change specialists who use local variation information to ascertain species increase or decline, as well as temperature fluctuations and change.

Tips

If there are Monarch Butterflies in your area, they are very easy to attract. Swamp Milkweed (noted above) or Tropical Milkweed (annual in colder climates) are excellent host plants for them. The Tropical Milkweed can be started from seed in the winter.
Monarchs are very fascinating butterflies. Their migration pattern is one of nature's great stories. Indeed, you can participate in the migration by helping to track the Monarchs that arrive in your part of the world. Report your own observations to this map.

Warnings

Always avoid planting potentially invasive species of plants. These plants can spread miles beyond the garden walls and wreak havoc on native ecosystems. If they are planted they will spread.

New header and busy, busy

Hope you all like my new header. I found the kit on the Digital Candy gallery where someone had scrapped it in a layout and I just loved it. I am a huge fan of the beach and really hope to visit a nice, quiet beach again very soon. In 1999, my husband and I visited Panama City Beach and also went to Destin, FL. It was beautiful to see the colors of the ocean and hear it's peaceful sounds. I enjoyed waking up early and watching the sunrise on the beach while the waves lapped at the sand.

Things are busy for me now. I have several CT teams I am working with and staying busy to keep up. It is a fun, creative use of my time and I enjoy that very much.

Tonight has been very eventful in Northwest Arkansas and the River Valley. My husband and I live in Fayetteville which fortunately missed most of the action, but my family had an interesting night full of tornado sirens, howling dogs and softball size hail. We have checked on everyone and they are all fine but if you lived in the area where the storm blew threw (twice actually), you might have holes in your siding, broken windows, trees down, no electric and a yard full of hail (looks like it snowed golf balls).

We have lots of rain, so tomorrow should be interesting to see how the roads are and if our backyard becomes a doggie swimming pool yet again.

CT Team Feature DAY 1 ~ Toy Box Designs

Toy Box Designs was the first CT team I joined. I found several of her kits that I really enjoyed and was very eager to get to scrappin'. I move fast (that was only a month ago). Her designs have an old fashioned, vintage feel in my opinion. I love that because I am outside of my element. I would normally pick kits with bright, bold colors or a more modern feel but I've been SO happy with what I can do with her work. It's a reminder to step out of your "normal" box and right into the "Toy Box".

Toy has a great new birthday kit that I am eager to get to use. (Watch for my birthday layouts soon!) Here's a preview! You can get this kit for only $3.75 at her Stone Accents Studio store.Here's a bit more of my work for Toy Box Designs:
This first layout is one of my absolute favorites. It was featured in the monthly Stone Accents Studio newsletter shortly after it was made. This is from the kit title "Just Breathe".
This also features "Just Breathe" and a few photos of a friend's new puppy. What a beautiful dog. I used the backgrounds, swirls and lines from this kit to create the effects. I added the red text to bring out the color in the dog's collar.

This beautiful layout features the vintage look that I would have assumed was not my style at all but turns out I LOVED IT! This is my middle sister and our niece Hannah captured in a sweet moment. This kit is called "Little Miss" and is ON SALE for only $3.00!

If you want to see the versitility in a kit, this shows it. I have also used the "Little Miss" kit but switched up the colors a bit by adding the green and the beautiful frame. This is my niece Hannah playing PEEKABOO in her crib. Don't forget to snag the Alpha set that matches this cute kit!

I'm a SWEET PICK at Digital Candy

This first new layout may just be one of my favorites. I chose to feature a favorite song of mine titled "Lithium" by Evanescence. The kit is one of JenLin's called "Wreck of a Day". It fits so well with my style and gave me a great opportunity to scrap a song. The lyrics of the complete song is listed in the background faded just enough to create the effect. The colors are bold reds, aquas, greys, blacks and whites. I LOVE the grungy look and this does it!

This next layout also features the "Wreck of a Day" kit by JenLin Designs. This is my husband and I sharing a kiss (if I could just stop laughing) on the day he returned from Diego Garcia (a tiny island in the middle of the Indian Ocean) where his military job sent him to work with Operation Enduring Freedom for 7 months in 2005 and 2006. This layout was a SWEET PICK on Digital Candy which I can't even begin to say how honored I am to be "picked".

It's been a crazy, hectic week. I've not accomplished much on digi scrapping but I hope to do some over the weekend. I am looking forward to a long, relaxing weekend. Tonight, Scott and I have spent the evening on the couch watching "Lord of the Rings". The dogs got out of the back fence earlier and I spent a good amount of time hollerin' at them to get their little wigglebutts back here. Finally, the all trotted home, but not until "mom" aka me was FULLY exhausted and wheezing. It took a good two hours to recover but I can finally breath clear again.

Well, how can you not love this? This is my neice, Hannah. She turned 8 months old on March 20, 2008. I never have trouble remembering her special day each month because she was born exactly 10 months after her cousin, my son, Christopher. For those who know me, you know that our son passed away shortly after birth because he was premature. I'd love to be scrapping his fun 18 months old pictures (or 14 month old pictures if he'd be born on his due date) but since I can't, then I can scrap my neice and my friends babies.

Now about this kit! This is the NEW kit coming from JenLin Designs. It is called "MAYBE BABY" and features some BEAUTIFUL colors, pastels, perfect for boys and girls. Scroll down for the BIG ANNOUNCEMENT (No I am not pregnant, unfortunately, LOL)

This is a great photo of my mom and my husband at my mom and dad's booth at the War Eagle Mill Craft Show last year. This layout was featured recently in the Stone Accents Studio newsletter.This beautiful kit is made to remember the "Northwest Arkansas Share Walk to Remember" held in October last year. Our group gets together to walk and release balloons to our children in heaven. It's a wonderful rememberance event. This kit is "Little Boy Blue" by Carina Gardner of Digi Nirvana. She is a fantastic designer with unique digi scrap designs. I used Atomic Cupcake's cardboard/torn paper actions to create the effect on the left. The font is a beautiful one I found called "Windsong". I am a guest on the Creative Team for Carina and am enjoying every minute of it. Here's a layout created for the team with all of our photos... Yes, I know, I am the ONLY one NOT smiling, LOL, but I take a terrible picture even on my best days. I am so excited to be on this team and get to know everyone.

DId you think I forgot? Nope, I didn't! Here's the big announcement! I've been asked to joing JEN LIN's CREATIVE TEAM!! When Jenn started her design blog/store and did her first CT call, I was busy designing siggys and really had no interest in doing layouts. Funny looking back, I still love siggy making and spend most of my time designing siggys for CRUMBSNATCHERS (great board!) but layouts are SO addicting. I've warned family and friends that I consider any photo they send me "scrappable". It's so much fun.

Anyway, Jen had an opening on her CT team recently and offered me a spot. I couldn't be more thrilled! Joining me on the team is also Amber (a good scrapper and also from Arkansas!). I look forward to making lots of great layouts with Jen's stuff.

March Madness and Lots of Colors!

Here's a couple of layouts I made for some challenges. The first one is for a Scraplift challenge at SAS. I chose a layout I loved and used a red paper by JenLin Designs and added a cute basketball clip from PSE and some great photos from RazorbackSpiritSquad.net For participating, I got a great free kit from Jen Lin called "Apple Blossoms". TY Jenn!

This fun layout was for a challenge at Digital Candy called "Candy Jar". The kit is by Mandy Mystiques Designs and the challenge required you to use all of the elements in the kit. That's not something I do very often but it was neat to try. Since there were some great colors and daisy flowers, I chose a few pictures of a dog I rescued back in the day. Her new owners call her Daisy so it was perfect. The photos were pretty dark so I did some editing to clean them up and used a couple of my favorite actions from Atomic Cupcake (torn page and scalloped circle). This kit was really fun to use and I had a great time participating! TY Mandy!

My "Just Breathe Layout" featuring a friend's baby boy was chosen to be showcased in the Stone Accents Studio newsletter. I feel honored to be picked.

A few minor issues at our house tonight. 2 outlets went CAPPPOOOT and nothing on the front half of our house works. Fortunately we rent and call have the landlords resolve this. UNFORTUNATELY, the house is messy and I'll need to clean it first. *song ringing in her ears* "Cinderella, Cinderella, all we hear is Cinderella"... you know how it goes.

Well, I've been busy lately. I hope you can forgive me for taking an eternity to update! I have a little bit of GREAT news! I was accepted as a Creative Team Member for Toy Box Designs!! I am very excited. I have started scrappin' layouts with her great work! I also got a guest spot for 2 months with Carina Garder at Digi Nirvana (love that name!) Her work and style is unique and fits so well with what I love.

This first layout features the new son of a couple of good friends. The second layout is a beautiful photo of my neice Hannah, and the third, of course is also Hannah with my sister, Jennifer, her aunt. If you like these, PLEASE leave me some LOVE...

A Sunday at the Oscars...

I am a huge movie buff, I love to watch movies. Who doesn't? But after listening to the Oscars for almost 4 hours, I was ready to shut the tv off. John Stewart offers some interesting jokes, some were almost funny. Good thing the writers strike is over or I can't imagine. I have added some new siggys to my slide. I plan to be off work tomorrow and I PROMISE you guys can't see me until I've done my housework! UGH...

3 am Blogwork

Well, yes, it's 3 am and I sit up making blinkies for my new siggy boards, CrumbSnatchers and JWI. DH is playing EQ and "Cars" is playing on DVD. The dogs are snoring and waiting for us to go to bed. I am really enjoying my new siggy boards and have come up with some of my best work (WOOT) since joining them. Thanks to all the great people who've helped me get to this point. I plan to continue working towards designing and more.

Speaking of designing... I created my first "word art". It's very simple, but here's a preview... I'll post a download link tomorrow if anyone thinks they might want it.

Siggy work from CrumbSnatchers

Good Friday evening. Since we didn't make our DC trip, I decided to take a couple days off anyway and boy am I glad. I spent so much time today just sitting on the couch, watching movies and making siggys. I was accepted as a designer to a really GREAT siggy board called "CRUMBSNATCHERS" So far, everyone is really nice and they are some really good siggy designers. There's so much talent there, I hope I can keep up. Siggy making can be a good outlet to relieve stress. It's so much fun once you get the hang of it. Of course, I'm still learning.

I have to offer a quick TY to my good friend Kim (kimbytx) who knew the girls over at CrumbSnatchers and helped me to get on as a designer. I really appreciate the vote of confidence! THANKS KIM!!

I've also been busy designing layouts and well, let's just say I bought some cleaning items today that are simply just sitting on the counter in the bags begging me to stay on the computer and goof off...LOL...

I had a busy day yesterday so I didn't get enough time to come in and post about our son, Christopher. Yesterday he would have turned 17 months old. Here's a layout I made to honor his day. Quick update, Our trip was cancelled :0(

Well, for the past couple of months, we've been working with a progam called the DOD Bone Marrow Program because my husband was identified as the "best match" for a 31 year old bone cancer patient who needed a transfer donation of blood stem cells. The trip dates have changed a few times due to some issues with the patient being ready to accept the transfer. We were set to fly out this Friday morning, Feb. 22nd.

Unfortunately, the trip was cancelled indefinitely this morning. We don't know why and we know that this was a life saving donation for the patient and we really want to offer our prayers to him and his family. We hope that the cancellation was for a reason that means he is improving but we realize it may be because his health is declining.

So, I plan to take a few days off and do some spring cleaning instead.

Another Layout and getting ready for DC

Here's another layout I made tonight. Not sure that I like it, but I liked the picture and the colors so I figured I'd go ahead and post. This kit is purple breeze by Mandy Mystiques... Great work Mandy!So, today was the longest day of work looking at nothing really but the "blue forms". These are the expense requests turned in by faculty to have me pay for the things they need for Social Work. I had about 20 and each one seems to take around 30 minutes, give or take a little depending on the request. Add it up, and it was very time consuming. But the good news is that it's done and I can go to work tomorrow for a few hours and wrap up and then I'll be gone for a good week and a little more.

Here's one more layout... Love this one... It's my sister Jennifer and her "girls"... I loved the Black and White version... This is another Mandy Mystiques Kit, called Lovebugs! Super cute! Please excuse the slight distortion...Thanks for looking! Wonder what everyone else is up to? My email is so quiet these days.

Well, I sit here tonight, still sick, adding a headache to the mix which makes it really tough to be sick. I am watching "Dance Wars" which has been somewhat an interesting show. Team Carrie Anne (My name is Kerrie Anne... *grin) has done a great job! I am interested to see who the new cast of Dancing with the Stars is. Now that is a fun tv show to watch. Congrats to Team Bruno, they did great tonight and WON! I'm not so sure about the new DWTS cast though.

So here's what I've done tonight... My 2nd layout ever... This is my neice Hannah Banana...and I've used a great digi kit by Mandy Mystiques... This is her cute kit called Cotton Candy and you can buy it here.

And here's another layout I made featuring my dad, better known these days as "Pa" and a sweet moment with his granddaughter...

This great layout is of my nephew, DH's sister's baby, Andrew. His middle name is Christopher after our son. This is also Mandy Mystiques kit, a new one called Space Sprockets... Get it here... It's a huge kit on sale now for only $3.49!! WOW! Great job Mandy!
And here's the first layout I ever did for a contest for JennLin to win a cute stars kit... I used a digi kit by FLERGS.... This was her Strawberry Delight Mini Kit... SO CUTE!!

Well, I am off to finish a few things for the night... I have lots of work to do tomorrow and Wednesday to get ready for our trip to DC. We leave on Friday!!! Hopefully my cold will be gone or at least my ears will be unclogged!

A Sunday before the big trip...

So what all does a Sunday before the big DC trip entail? Well, for me, coughing, sneezing, runny nose, clogged ears and more. Lovely right? Not really. I have actually been battling the same cold for about 3 weeks now. I finally saw the NP at the Health Center on campus but she didn't tell me much I didn't already know, just added a couple of meds in.

What SHOULD I be doing this Sunday before our big trip? I should be cleaning the house which honestly looks like it was hit by a tornado, washing up all the dishes, clothes and shaving 4 very long haired cocker spaniels, but I just want to go to sleep instead.

I do want to say I am really glad I posted everything in "the truth" yesterday. By the time I was done, I felt a weight lifted from my shoulders. I read and re-read everything I said and I know I wasn't the picture of nice, but I certainly think I was pushed and I think that X simply dislikes me and read a lot into things that weren't ever there. I don't know who else there (if anyone) disliked me but it's their problem, not mine, and a sad one at that.

So I am looking into new signature creating message boards, and working to improve my blog, and hoping to get into designing. Looking forward to it actually, but I will still miss those I call my friends from the message board mentioned below. Hugs and lots of love to all of you, please do keep in touch!

I must admit, I am not a blogger. Never thought I would be and I don't really know how to do it. Got tips? I'll take them. It might be kinda boring here until I get the hang of it, SORRY! LOL!
This morning I woke up and 4 of our dogs were spread across Scott's side of the bed. His legs were conveniently placed on my side of the bed. When I wondered why, he answered sleepily that "his electric blanket was on". So apparently they must've been cold.

It is a rainy, cold, wet day here. I have a lot to do today and tomorrow to get things ready for our trip to Washington DC. We leave on Friday, the 22nd. I am very excited and we also get to fly FIRST CLASS. Boy am I spoiled. I couldn't ask for better. For those who don't know, we are going so that my wonderful husband, Scott, can donate blood stem cells for a 31 year old bone cancer patient. We hope that this will save this man's life, I can't imagine what he's been going through. I've never been to DC and they tell us Scott should feel pretty good most of the time he's there so we are hoping to get lots of sightseeing done.

I found a siggy board, thanks to KIM, (kimbytx from JM)... I am lurking there to see if its an option for me. I already miss JM so much and I had siggy requests pending that I feel HORRIBLE that I can't do. I wish a simple misunderstanding hadn't turned into something so awful. My best recommendation to anyone is that if you have a problem with someone, don't hold it inside because if you do, and remember you may be totally wrong, but holding it in means when it does finally come out, it may come out rather nasty on your part and you may offend and hurt feelings of the person who think you have a problem with. It's best to simply say "Hey, what gives" and "How can we resolve this or compromise". People who would rather send hateful, cruel messages lashing out are just going to offer more pain to the other party unnecessarily.
